DIY Mini Split Kit: Everything You Need to Install It Yourself by Zone Air
Our DIY mini split kits include everything you need to install the system yourself. Ductless mini split systems are a cost-effective option for homes. Our ductless heat pumps work as both air conditioners and heat systems, helping cut energy costs by avoiding energy loss from ductwork. All Zone Air units are assembled, tested, and inspected in the USA. Each unit comes with an indoor head, outdoor condenser, a pre-charged quick-connect line set, mounting bracket, and WiFi control. No vacuum pump and no HVAC contractor required, and many kits include instructions so you can install without special tools or training and with less worry.

About Our DIY Ductless Mini Split Kits
Every Zone Air system ships as a complete kit: this mini split system is a mini split AC setup that heats and cools a room or space without ductwork. The included equipment is the indoor unit (wall air handler) and the outdoor unit, connected by the provided quick-connect, pre-charged refrigerant line-set. For best airflow and performance, keep the line-set run in a suitable location and under 30 feet.
The refrigerant is already loaded and sealed in the line-set and in the units, which helps simplify installation and reduce the chance of refrigerant leaks when connected correctly. You still need basic carpentry and electrical skills, and some installs require a dedicated AC circuit.

Sizing Your DIY Mini Split Kit
Sizing by cooling capacity and overall capacity is important for maximum efficiency and suitable performance in mini split applications. Choosing the right size system helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment while optimizing energy use and reducing utility costs. Undersized units may struggle to cool or heat effectively, especially in larger homes or spaces with multiple rooms, while oversized units can lead to short cycling and increased wear. Consider factors such as room size, insulation, ceiling height, and the number of zones or rooms the system will serve. Selecting the right system tailored to your specific needs will help you save both dollars and energy over time, making your purchase a smart investment for your house or building. Additionally, our kits offer options for multi-zone setups and ceiling cassette units to better fit different layouts and preferences.
