Zone Air Plug In DIY mini split air systems simplify two aspects of the average HVAC system installation, the refrigerant handling and the electrical work. We simplify the refrigerant handling with our custom engineered pre-charged quick-connect line-set systems, which allow DIY installers to avoid handling or releasing any refrigerant. Refrigerant in our quick-connect line-sets is contained by a custom valve system that automatically releases the refrigerant upon line-set connection. No need for a vacuum pump, no need for an EPA 608 license, and no need for an HVAC technician.

Zone Air DIY Series, specifically 110v version systems are specifically designed to be easy to install from an electrical point of view. 110v units can use a “pig tail” power cord and can be plugged into a standard outlet so long as the wiring and amperage requirements are met, but we advise customers to adhere to their local building codes and regulations and to make sure everything is done safely and legally. This means you don’t have to hard-wire your unit or run special cables, which is a big reason many people choose our systems.

Our systems also include a disconnect for safety during maintenance or testing. When you turn off the power at the disconnect, you can safely perform your test or service work.

Unlike 220v systems, 110v systems provide an easier way to power your unit. They are especially convenient if you already have a close exterior outlet and want effective cooling without expensive electrical work.

It can plug into a regular 15A outlet with a power cord, the same type your microwave, hair dryer, or window AC uses, so no electrician is needed for the install. Can I really plug a mini split into a standard outlet?

What size 110v mini split do I need?

Use 20 BTU per square foot as a starting point. The 9,000 BTU 110v model covers rooms 200–450 sq ft, bedrooms, offices, small ADUs, garage workshops, and is a quiet fit for sleep or focused work. The 12,000 BTU 110v model covers 350–600 sq ft, master bedrooms, living rooms, finished basements, with strong cooling coverage for those spaces. If your room is over 600 sq ft, 110v tops out at 12K. You'd need 18K BTU on 220V.

110v vs 220v mini split, which should I choose?

Choose 110v if you don't want to add a 220V circuit, want an easier heat pump install, you're renting, or your room is under 600 sq ft. The 110v models plug into a standard outlet — zero electrical work, zero electrician cost, $200–500 saved versus a 220V install. Choose 220V if your room needs 18,000 BTU (110v tops out at 12K) or you already have a free 220V circuit from a previous central AC or dryer install, since the 110v option avoids any voltage switch or conversion setup.
